An Ode to Flickr

Flickr how do I love thee let me count the ways. Ever since I used you in Book design you have never let me down; well except when I can't download a picture that I really like but other than that Never. You're the first sight I go to and the sight I always come back to. No one compares. I love you flickr and I hope you'll always be there.

Show and tell- Unnesessary Instructions

How to Tell Children The Truth About Santa Claus
from eHow
Step 1
Explain to your children that indeed Santa Claus exists, but not in the way that they think. Tell them that he is not a fat jolly man who flies through the air with reindeer & elves. Rather he was a man named St. Nicholas.
Step 2
Tell your children of the traditions of St. Nicholas, and why we do them. For instance, St. Nicholas through bags of money and gold into extremely poor and destitute people's homes through their chimneys. This is why we have stockings. For others without chimneys he left money in their shoes outside their homes. This is why many people around the world do this at Christmas.
Step 3
Explain how St. Nicholas was a strong defender of Christianity, and defended the holy trinity at the council of Nicea. This is truly how "Santa Claus" is related to the birth of Jesus Christ.
Step 4
Tell your children of the generosity and heroic acts of St. Nicholas, and some of the miracles that he performed.
Step 5
Do research on St. Nicholas, so that you can explain to your children all of the wonderful things that the REAL Santa Claus has done. Also research Christmas, and how it was used to combat the pagan solstice which spread Christianity to masses of people.

Its crazy that there are instructions about this. Kids either find out because their parents accidently slip up or a meaner older siblings ruins it for them.

Show and Tell- Instructions

I love eHow. They have the craziest instructions. I thought this was appropriate for the Holiday Season.

How to use Mistletoe to Your advantage

Step 2
Select CDs or tapes that put you in a romantic mood.
Step 3
Put artificial mistletoe over every doorway in your home.
Step 4
Place a trail of mistletoe leading to a romantic setting.
Step 5
Have your beverage of choice chilled.
Step 6
Use your imagination.

Fun Packaging

You can dress and undress the pin-up model on the bottle while you drink. Sooo Cool

Interesting Packaging

In my trek to find cool packaging I googled upon a pretty sweet liquor blog http://www.liqurious.com/
These images caught my eye immediatly. No they aren't perfume bottles they are G Pure energy drinks. The packaging is fabulous.

Packaging with a story

I like how its a recipe on the front of the bottle but the use of the product is shower gel.

Show and Tell- Package with a Story

The traditional taste of fresh-brewed black tea leaves, the natural flavor of lemon mingles perfectly with the bold and robust tea taste. A touch of all natural sugar completes this classic to provide an unabashedly traditional take on tea.

It didn't really have a story to tell, its just descriptive.

Show and Tell- Definition and Explanation

Its Defining what Kelloggs is all about.

I like the typographic treatment of the i's. They look like two people and it really captures what the movie is about. Two black police officers dressing up as two white heiresses.

MEAC Volleyball Logo

This is the logo for the MEAC volleyball tournament. Some people didn't understand why the girl was purple. It seems they were trying to follow the color scheme but making the girl purple is just too matchy matchy.

Narrative

One of my friend's took these chips from one of her students.

Interesting Typography

My Workshop teacher showed my class the Rules to fight club last spring. It was so cool that I decided to show some of my favorites.

Show and Tell- Typography

I love this typography because there are really 11 teams in the Big Ten conference so instead of completely scrapping the design they just used a creative solution.

Looking at Design

I decided to consume myself with looking at Nike ads so I get a feel of their designing identity. I really liked this campaign for Lance Armstrong.

Searching for shoe inspiration

I have spent countless hours looking for shoe ads to get some type of epiphany on what direction I should take with my campaign. My sister directed me to this site http://www.webdesigncore.com/2009/11/01/30-fantastic-and-fabulous-examples-of-shoes-advertisements/. Here are some of the ads

Flickr Love Story

I thought I would post the love story I was talking about during lunch. The images are just beautiful and what makes it more amazing is that they aren't even together. Its all photoshopped during Compilation Sundays.

Project 3 Pics

I attempted to take my own pictures for my campaign about reusing athletic shoes to make playgrounds. I was trying to take pictures of old shoes outside on the grass, on brick stairs and in the street. I think they turned out okay but this isn't the finished product. I think I am going to take them at different angles. The only issue I had was placing one of the photos on my poster it came out so small.

Show and Tell- Call to Action

I found the Raven Symone ad in Essence magazine. Pepsi's We inspire call to action is for African American women to visit their interactive website and share what inspires them. I think the photos of Raven Symone and Taraji P. Henson are beautiful and I like the handwritten text and small photo in the corner; it makes the ad more personal. You can visit the site at http://www.pepsiweinspire.com/

Call to Action

Until There's a Cure call to action is buying their bracelets to raise funds for AIDS research. For their campaign they have a celebrity wearing their bracelet. Ever since I was little I have seen these ads in magazines and always have wanted one. They have so many different styles now. I especially like the bracelets Kim Kardashian is wearing. For more info visit the website at http://www.until.org/

Just a T-Shirt- Nike Campaign 2007

Created by W+K and photos made by Terry Richardson. The campaign runs with the slogan “It’s Just A T-Shirt”. The pictures show athletes that are sponsored by Nike. I love Nike. I think their concepts are the best. I wish I could be on their marketing team.

My Collection or maybe Obsession

I call it more of an obsession than collection. I love buying eccentric purses especially purses with writing on them. I got this one on canal street in New York. The moment I saw the graffiti writing on it, it was mine. Its been a challenge trying to fit it in my everyday wardrobe but I'll make it work.

MSU Homecoming 2009

Its only right to rep my Alma Mater and talk about Homecoming at Morgan State University. I just enjoy seeing Volleyball alumni from the past and get annoyed how people think its more about what they're wearing to the football game than watching the actual game. I posted a couple of the many party flyers that decorate the campus this week. There's is a method to all of these flyers. Throw a girl half naked on them and make the date of the event in large text on the front. Then jam as much information on the back. Nobody really looks at them that long. I'd say two seconds flat and then its thrown on the ground.
Unfortunately I won't be able to go to the Homecoming
because I'm fortunate enough to have class for six hours on Saturday ...tear.

In An Absolut World

I remember this ad in Spring 2008. The whole concept of these absolut ads were to show the world from a different perspective but this one didn't fly well with many people.

Real Women Campaign

This was an ad campaign Nike launched in 2005 celebrating real women. From Adrants- With the launch of a new campaign, Nike has made official the mini-trend towards celebrating less than stick figure sized woman. Following Dove's much talked about campaign, Nike has launched a series of print ads that celebrates big butts, thunder thighs and tomboy knees. The big 'ol booty is pushing aside the anorexic runway model and Ms. Magazine Founder Gloria Steinem is very happy about it telling Ad Age, "It is a change that women and some men, too have been agitating for 35 years. I spent 15 years of my life pleading for ads that reflected our readers by age, race and ethnicity. We could demonstrate that women responded better to ads that were more inclusive of them, but they just weren't coming." The campaign comes from Wieden & Kennedy

One of my favorite ads

The visual and verbal is pretty much self explanatory.

A Complete change

I was originally going to do project 2 about shape up shoes but then I completely changed it. I do like the idea of shoes that tone your legs but they are too pricey. I think the visual image of the product gets the point across. Its trying to tell women that they can have these sexy legs too if they buy the Reebok easytone shoes.

Red Bean Mochi

My best friend Amy lived in Taiwan for 6 months and acquired an interesting love for red bean mochi. She loved it sooo much that she thought she would share her new treat with the rest of her friends. She pretty much had the same reaction from everyone but Rachel's was by far the best.
